However, a stroll through the picturesque Old Harbor shows that history and traditions remain strong in this growing city.
The arctic town of Ilulissat is situated by the amazing Ilulissat Ice Fiord which is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Welcome to Capital of Greenland

Arrival in the arctic capital; Nuuk – transfer to accommodation. Depending on time of arrival chance for a city tour. If not – city tour next morning. For dinner choose among a variety of fine restaurants in heart of Nuuk.

Day 2 – Grand tour of Nuuk and dinner at Qooqqut Nuan

The tour starts with a 1½ hour city tour where all parts of town is visited. The tour ends at the National Museum where 1 to 1½ hours is spent. On through the old colonial harbor to the culture house Katuaq for Greenlandic tapas. After lunch a short walk takes us to a local family for coffee and cake, and stories about living in Nuuk and Greenland, past and present. At 15.30 pm departure a one-hour boat ride to Qooqqut. Here we fish and give the catch to the chef at the mountain restaurant Qooqqut Nuan who prepares and serves our fish, along with other local dishes. Back in Nuuk at 21.00.

Day 3 – Boat tour to the ice fiord and off to Ilulissat 

At 8.00 we depart on a boat tour to the icefiord. The tour goes to the bottom of the Nuuk fiord which is reached after around 2,5 hrs. depending on the ice conditions. Here with a great view over the glacier Narsap Sermia, we enjoy our lunch with the only sounds coming from breaking, cracking and dripping ice. After lunch, the tour goes to the village of Qoornoq, a former fishing and hunting village now used for summer and weekends. Here we spend some time before heading back to Nuuk, passing a waterfall from the glacier Sermitsiaq along the way. The tour ends in Nuuk at 15.00. After this the rest of the day is free. You can do some souvenir shopping in our Tupilak Shop where you get a 10 percent discount on all products; Souvenirs, handicraft and fur products. At 20.00 boarding the ferry Sarfaq Ittuk for Ilulissat.

Day 4 – Full day on the ferry on the coast

Enjoy the day on the ferry between Nuuk and Ilulissat together with local travelers. The trip takes you to the towns of Maniitsoq, Sisimiut and Aasiaat where it is possible to take small walks. Along the way you will for sure see whales, seals and lots of sea birds.

Day 5 – Welcome to Ilulissat – the capital of ice

Arrival in Ilulissat at 13.00 and transfer to your hotel. The afternoon can be used for strolling around town, visiting the museum and taking in the sights. At 22.00 departure for the 2½ hour midnight boat tour to the Icefiord, between the gigantic icebergs.

Day 6 – Day tour to Eqip Sermia – the calving glacier

Today’s boat tour takes you to the glacier at Eqip Sermia. Here it is possible to get very close to the glacier front, where you can enjoy the fantastic scenery for app. two hours. Lunch will be served while you are waiting for the ice to calve, in the ice secured and modern boat.
You will on the way, pass steep mountains with bird life and waterfalls.  You will also pass a settlement called Oqaatsut, and big fiord system called Pakitsoq, where whales and seals often are seen.

Day 7 – Free day in Ilulissat

There is no fixed program for this day, but optional tours are available e.g. to the village of Ilimanaq or a hike to the settlement ruins of Sermermiut, directly by the Icefiord. A walk to the harbor can also be recommended. Boats in all sizes arrive all day to sell their catch of halibut and shrimp to the two local factories.

Day 8 – Helicopter Kangia Classic Summer:

Today it`s Helicopter time. Would you like to see Ilulissat and the amazing UNESCO Word Heritage glacier from above? The goal is to land in the middle of the preserved area. Here you have a half an hour to enjoy the wonderful nature and the beautiful surroundings. Ilulissat is the most productive glaciers in the Northern hemisphere. The glacier is 7 kilometers wide and more than 1 kilometer deep. The glacier produces 42 million tons of ice and it can move up to 50 meters a day. The Helicopter takes off from Ilulissat airport. Crossing hills, lakes, and Icefiords.

Day 9 – Goodbye Greenland

Today it’s time to say goodbye to Greenland. Your flight to Iceland is in the morning. Transfer from the hotel to the airport is organized by the hotel.

This central Nuuk hotel is less than 6 km from Nuuk Airport. The 5th-floor Skyline Bar offers views over the Nuuk Fiord and Malene Mountains, as well as live piano music every night.

On-site dining options include a café in the reception, a lunch restaurant, along with 2 dinner restaurants.
