Boat tour in the Nuuk Fiord, old settlement visit and waterfall
Boat tour in the Nuuk Fiord, old settlement visit, and waterfall.
This unique boat tour takes you to the abandoned settlement of Qoornoq, also known as Bjørneøen (Bear Island) named for its bear-like shape when viewed from above. Although the name suggests otherwise, the chance of encountering a polar bear here today is very small.
At Qoornoq, you’ll step ashore and have the opportunity to explore the old settlement, which is now a popular summer retreat for locals from Nuuk. Wander through the charming ruins and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
After the walk, we return to the boat and continue the tour around the island. Along the way, your guide will point out the sites of ancient Norse settlements, sharing stories of Greenland’s fascinating Viking history.
The tour concludes with a visit to the iconic waterfall on the backside of Mount Sermitsiaq, a breathtaking natural spectacle that offers perfect photo opportunities and a fitting end to your adventure.
