Old Colonial Harbour – National Museum – Greenlandic Tapas
Discover Nuuk’s rich history, vibrant culture, and local cuisine on this guided walking tour through the capital’s hostorical areas ending with a delicious Greenlandic tapas lunch.
The tour begins at the Tupilak office and heads past the Katuaq Cultural Center, a striking modern building and a central hub for art and culture in Nuuk. In summer, the center often hosts exhibitions by local artists. Then on to the Greenlandic Parliament and from there, the walk continues into the Colonial Harbor, one of Nuuk’s most historic and picturesque areas. Here, colorful wooden houses still stand as they did 200–300 years ago, offering a glimpse into the city’s earliest days.
As we walk through this storied part of Nuuk, your guide will introduce you to key landmarks, including:
-
The old whale blubber processing equipment
-
Hans Egede’s House
-
The evocative Mother of the Sea sculpture in the tidal zone
-
And the statue of Hans Egede overlooking the fjord beside the old church
The final stop on the walking tour is the Greenland National Museum, where you’ll explore a fascinating collection of artifacts spanning all periods of Greenlandic history and civilization.
We end the tour at Cafétuaq, the café inside Katuaq, where you’ll enjoy a Greenlandic tapas lunch featuring a tasting plate with dried fish and meats, shrimp, scallops, and other locally sourced delicacies.
After lunch, you’ll find yourself in the perfect spot to explore shops and boutiques nearby, if you’d like to continue your day in central Nuuk.
