Tour to Kangeq
Experience an unforgettable day at the abandoned settlement of Kangeq, surrounded by the stunning landscapes near Håbets Ø.
Located at the entrance to the vast Nuuk Fjord, Kangeq is a place where history, culture, and nature come together. It was here that the Danish-Norwegian missionary Hans Egede first arrived in 1721, living for seven years before continuing deeper into the fjord system to establish what is now Nuuk.
Once a thriving settlement, Kangeq was abandoned in the 1960s when residents were relocated to Nuuk. Today, the site stands as a quiet reminder of Greenland’s past, with its colorful houses and dramatic surroundings creating a truly unique atmosphere.
During the tour, you’ll explore the settlement and hear stories about life here, including the legacy of the renowned Greenlandic artist and storyteller Aron from Kangeq, who was born and worked in this very place. His artwork offers a rare insight into traditional Greenlandic life and culture.
Kangeq is still used today as a hunting area during the summer, highlighting the continued connection between the land and the people of Greenland.
Join us on a scenic boat journey through pristine Arctic waters and step into a place where history lives on—an authentic and atmospheric experience you won’t forget.
